First surgery complete!

Just an update from Amy's mom:
Dr. Ross just spoke to us and said that Hope's surgery went well.  They had to patch her aorta twice but it seems to be functioning well at this point.  He said often, with aorta's as tiny as Hope's, there is a problem with the coronary artery but hers seems to be doing very well, praise the Lord.  She is not on the heart-lung bypass machine at this moment but they may need to put her back on in the night if she needs it.  He reitterated that the next 24 hours are critical and that she is, by no means, "out of the woods" yet.

Thank you all for praying and your continued prayers are so needed!!!  We are rejoicing that she has made it through surgery and are asking God to continue keeping His hand of protection on her as we walk through the next 24 hours.

After almost 8 hours of waiting, we are exhausted, but elated at the same time!  We will probably take shifts staying by her bedside tonight.  Will update you and let you know how things are going.

  1. Yay Jesus! So glad to hear she made if through so well and that her coronary artery is good! Praying healing, restoration, strength and stability for sweet Hope. Praying for all of you, too. Praying that her body adjusts well to the Norwood and that she just gets stronger all the time! What a warrior. Also praying that God would wash away all trauma and bring peace to you all. What a journey... Bless you guys. - annie, paul and miles in toronto

  8. I was just directed to your blog as I know our family will be going through a similar situation after our baby girl is born in 3 months. She will need heart surgery, and likely has other complications also. Thank you for sharing your story like this. To know we are not the only people going through this is comforting, although I would never wish it on anyone. God has already proved such a source of strength and hope for our family. Continue to trust!

  9. Amy, my heart goes out to you and your family. I can relate with so many of your experiences, emotions, and fears. Our son was diagnosed with a rare congenital heart defect when I was 22 weeks pregnant. He was born two weeks ago and has already had a heart cath and two open heart surgeries. Me and my husband are also living in the Ronald McDonald house in Minneapolis MN.
Our heart kids are so special and God has such an amazing plan for their lives. I thought you might be encouraged by our blog as well. It's landonsletters.blogspot.com
